In the second round of the presidential elections that took place on the 30th of March, Zuzana Čaputová won with 58.40% of votes over Maroš Šefčovič who had 41.59% of votes. Overall, 40.8% of the electoral population participated in the second round.Zuzana Čaputová won the first round of the elections with 40.57% while Mr Šefovič had only 18.66%. Other candidates had under 15% of votes. 48.74% of the electoral Slovak population participated in the first round of the presidential elections. Mrs Čaputová is the first female president in the history of the Slovak Republic. Her manifesto focused on three main points: justice for everyone, dignity for seniors and protection of the environment. While most of the Slovak population is celebrating the results, some political commentators argue that because the electoral participation was lower than in the first round it showed that neither of the candidates is suited to be the next president.
